Carlyn Montes De Oca is an author, speaker, acupuncturist, and plant-based nutritional consultant. Carlyn has a bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts and a Master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Today she is the owner of Modern Alchemy Acupuncture & Nutritional Counseling.
Before her career in holistic health, Carlyn worked in the motion picture industry film editing on movies such as Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Alive, & Three Men and a Little Lady. After twenty years of working 24/7, Carlyn decided to pursue a career in health and wellness and find a way to help animals in a greater way.
A passionate animal advocate, Carlyn speaks to small business owners, as well as national conferences on behalf of animals and plant-based living. She was voted PETA’s Sexiest Vegetarian over 50 and has been a spokesperson for In Defense of Animals’ Guardian Campaign. Today she is the founder of The Animal-Human Health Connection, which focuses on bringing awareness to the many powerful, meaningful, and fun ways that animals enhance human health and happiness.
In April 2017 her highly anticipated book, Dog as My Doctor, Cat as My Nurse, An Animal Lover’s Guide to a Healthy, Happy & Extraordinary Life! – will be published.
Carlyn enjoys hiking with her dogs, relaxing with her cats, eating plant-based, and watching super-hero movies. She lives in Marin County with her husband Ken, an award-winning sound effects editor at Lucasfilm, and her beloved rescue animals.
