Lately I’ve been challenged by an unwanted guest. Something that keeps trespassing even after I’ve repeatedly escorted them to the door. The villain is impermanence….or is it?
I know everything changes and nothing lasts forever. However, the reality is a little harder to swallow. We age, friends get sick, family members pass away. At age sixty-three, loss feels like a daily part of life.
When a good friend recently told me she’d be moving away, and another friend found herself in the hospital after getting ill, a familiar pang of sadness stuck in my throat. As I sat with the feeling, I wondered about loss and how best to cope with it. How do we mend our hearts time and time again? That’s when someone sent me an article that shifted my point of view. The topic? Wabi-Sabi.
